Guidelines for Abstract Submissions

  • Online Submission Only: Abstracts must be submitted exclusively through the congress website's abstract submission portal after creating an account and login. Submissions via email or postal service are not accepted.
  • Language Requirement: All abstracts must be written and presented in English.
  • Multiple Submissions: Authors are permitted to submit more than one abstract.
  • Presenter Commitment: The author submitting the abstract is expected to present onsite at the congress. Any changes in presenting author due to unforeseen circumstances must be communicated to the Congress Secretariat at afsm2024sabah@gmail.com.
  • Abstract Title: The title should be concise, informative, and in CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • Content Structure: Abstracts must include Introduction and Aim, Method, Results, and Conclusions. Each section should be clearly defined.
  • Keywords: Provide three to maximum five relevant keywords for each abstract.
  • Formatting: Avoid graphics and references in the abstract. Use standard abbreviations, avoid uncommon abbreviations, and include any abbreviations in parentheses after the full words upon their first appearance.
  • Word Limit: The abstract should not exceed 300 words, excluding the title, author details, and keywords.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the abstract is in clear, publication-ready English. Proofread the draft thoroughly as amendments are not possible after submission.
  • Publication Opportunity: All approved abstracts will be published as Conference Abstract Proceedings in the Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal, a Scopus-indexed, open access, international peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal.
  • AFSM Young Researcher Award: Eligibility criteria are available on the website . Deadline for YRA abstract submission is on 29th February 2024.
  • Abstract Withdrawal Policy: Notify the Congress Secretariat via email by 12th April 2024 for withdrawals. The Congress organiser reserves the right to upload those unnotified abstracts onto the congress website and publish in congress e-abstract book.

  • The abstract's correspondence will follow the submitter correspondence, not the presenter correspondence. Please ensure the submitter correspondence is correct before submitting as it will be appear as the abstract's correspondence.

  • Sports Psychology, Mental Illness in Athletes, Sports Sociology and Humanities, Sports Integrity and Ethics, Safe Sports, Sports Management

  • The Scientific Committee will rigorously review all submissions to maintain the integrity and quality of the research presented.
  • The Scientific Committee reserves the rights to:
    • Decide on the acceptance, need for revision, or rejection of an abstract
    • Determine the final presentation format (either oral or poster)
    • Decide on the appropriate session, day, time and venue for the presentation.
  • The author may choose his/ her preferred type of presentation (either oral or poster) upon submitting the abstract. However, the final decision lies with the Scientific Committee.


The presenter of the accepted abstracts will be notified of the type of presentation as follows:

Oral Presentation

  • A total of 10 minutes will be allocated for each oral presentation (8 minutes of presentation and 2 minutes of Question and Answer).
  • The oral presenter must submit the presentation slides in PowerPoint format only (.ppt or .pptx) with on-screen shows 16:9 (landscape/ horizontal) format to the Congress Secretariat by 14th April 2024 via email: afsm2024sabah@gmail.com

E-Poster Presentation

  • A total of 8 minutes will be allocated for each e-poster presentation (6 minutes of presentation and 2 minutes of Question & Answer).
  • The poster presenter must submit the e-poster in two files: one JPEG/ JPG file AND one PDF file in potrait (vertical) format with width: 1080 pixel/ 285 mm/11.25 inches and height: 1920 pixel/ 508 mm/20.0 inches (total file size ≤ 5MB) to the Congress Secretariat by 14th April 2024 via email: afsm2024sabah@gmail.com

The submitting author must conform to the following:

  • By submitting the abstract, the author accept responsibility for its accuracy and acknowledge that amendments are not allowed post-submission. The provided information will be published as submitted.
  • All co-authors must be aware of and consent to the abstract’s content and data before submission. The correspondent author serves as the contact person for all correspondence and is responsible for sharing status updates with co-authors.
  • Submission implies consent to publish the abstract in all AFSM Congress 2024 materials, including the website and e-abstract book. Authors are responsible for obtaining any required copyright permissions related to prior presentations, equipment, or other materials.
  • Authors must obtain relevant regulatory authority permissions and appropriate consent.
  • Authors must ensure the originality of their work and avoid infringing upon any copyrights or personal rights.
  • Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, such as financial interests or advisory board memberships.
  • Online abstract submission and registration with full payment signifies agreement with all rules listed on the congress website: https://www.afsm2024.com/abstracts.php


  • The Congress Secretariat will promptly notify the outcome of the submitted abstract to the submitting author via email from 8th January 2024 onward (the reviewing process usually take about 2 weeks). The type and date of the presentation will be informed. Further details regarding the specific session, time, and venue of the presentation will be provided as the congress date draws nearer.
  • For abstracts that are acceptance with conditions, which required revision as recommended by the reviewers, the author is required to amend the abstract accordingly and resubmit the revised abstract via the abstract submission portal within 10 days from the date of receiving the email notification. Failure to comply with this deadline will result in the rejection of the abstract.
  • Abstracts submitted before completing the full payment of congress registration fee are eligible for an offer of acceptance. However, the final acceptance requires the presenting author to make the full payment by 15th March 2024. Otherwise, the accepted abstract will be automatically rejected.
